About CSIR — Science Communication and Dissemination Directorate (SCDD)

The Science Communication and Dissemination Directorate (SCDD) is a directorate under the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), India’s largest publicly funded multidisciplinary R&D organisation, under the Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India.

SCDD is the focal point for all science communication and S&T information dissemination activities of CSIR. It uses multiple methods to communicate CSIR’s scientific research and technological developments promptly to the public.

Vision & Mission

CSIR’s national vision — The Innovation Engine of India (भारत का नवाचार इंजन) — drives laboratories across biological, chemical, engineering, information, and physical sciences. SCDD complements this ecosystem through science communication, public engagement, media outreach, publications, exhibitions, and digital dissemination that strengthen scientific temper and public understanding of S&T.

What We Do

• Briefing media (electronic/print) on scientific products developed by CSIR and its laboratories
• Conducting conferences, webinars, and seminars for public engagement
• Participating in scientific exhibitions at state, national, and international level
• Producing jingles, radio programmes, video films, posters, banners, and pamphlets on CSIR technologies
• Managing CSIR social media (X/Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube) and the CSIR Blog
• Bringing out the CSIR Annual Report and related official publications

Leadership & Governance

CSIR is headed by the Hon'ble Prime Minister as President and guided by the Director General, CSIR & Secretary, DSIR. SCDD is headed by the Chief Scientist & Head, SCDD, and aligns with national policies on science communication, transparency, and public outreach under the Ministry of Science & Technology.

Functions of SCDD

• Focal coordination of science communication and S&T dissemination across CSIR
• Media engagement and publicity materials for CSIR technologies and achievements
• Digital outreach through social media platforms and the CSIR Blog
• Organisation of webinars and participation in mega-events such as India International Science Festival and Indian Science Congress
• Publication of the CSIR Annual Report and monthly communication outputs
